Oregon Symphony Substitute Flute Audition

Audition will be held Saturday, September 30 from 10 am - 2 pm at the Mago Hunt Recital Hall at University of Portland.

Times will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. Applications must be received by Sept. 23.

Excerpts (flute)

Beethoven—Leonore Overture no. 3, m. 328-360

Brahms—Symphony #4, mvt. 4, m. 93-105

Ravel—Daphnis et Chloe, 3 after reh. 176-2 after reh. 179

Mendelssohn—Scherzo from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, m. 338-385

Excerpts (piccolo)

Rossini—Semiramide Overture, 5^th measure after G-H; 14^th measure after T-U

Shostakovich—Symphony #8, mvt. 4, m. 60-66 (or 3 m. after reh. 118)

Flute excerpts can be found in Jeanne Baxtresser’s book, Orchestral Excerpts for Flute. Piccolo excerpts can be found in Jack Wellbaum’s Orchestral Excerpts for Piccolo. Both books are published by Theodore Presser. If you absolutely cannot find the piccolo excerpts, please indicate this in your e-mail and a copy of the excerpts will be sent in the mail.
