Our next First Tuesday Online is November 1, 2022 – Flutist and composer Adrian Dee will present his second concerto for flute, performing it with a recording of the orchestra parts.

Cost: Free for Members, $5 for Non-Members

Time: 7:00 - 8:00 pm, Zoom link sent upon registration

Adrian has been the second flutist with the Newport Symphony (Newport, OR) for about 26 years and has loved it, describing his colleagues as his "second family." He also plays with the Allegro con Flauto flute quartet and the Rose City Flute Choir in Portland. He is active with flute clubs on the local and national level, including serving in many roles for GPFS. He started arranging pieces for flute choir some years ago, and in recent years  started composing original works. He had the great pleasure of premiering his own first concerto (“Fantasy”) with is "home team," the Newport Symphony, in December 2021.

 Background on Guest Artist

Adrian Dee - Flutist, Composer

The world has enough angst and suffering. What we need is more JOY and COMPASSION.

This session will feature his second flute concerto which he describes as  more academic than the first. "I wanted to challenge myself to be more formal with the structure so I wrote a real sonata-form first movement, an A-B-A second movement, and a set of variations for the third movement. The entire piece runs about 22 minutes. It is scored for solo flute, 5-part strings, and harp. The style is basically tonal, metered (with some irregular meters), and melodic. I borrowed ideas from Beethoven, Mozart, and Rachmaninov. Nothing “cutting edge” here, just fun joyful music."
