2026 Young Artist Competition - Junior & Senior Divisions

Application to participate opens February 15th, 2026

and closes March 22nd, 2026.

Competition on 4/11/26 at Clackamas Community College, Gregory Forum, Campus Map. Both the competition and the warm-up area are in Gregory Forum as well. Park in the yellow lot for closest proximity to the event, but anywhere is fine, just mind the parking signs for reserved, disability, etc.

DETAILS

  • There are two competition divisions: Junior Division (middle school) and Senior Division (high school).
  • The competition will be held on 4/11/26, 9:00 - noon, at Clackamas Community College in Gregory Forum.
  • Application to participate open 2/15/2026 through 3/22/2026.
  • Music should be performed with piano accompaniment, arranged by you. You may also decide to perform one of the many flute alone solos in our repertoire.
  • You will have a ten minute performance time.
  • Only 8 middle and 8 high school performer applicants will be accepted. However, unlike prior years, there will be no cap on the number of applicants, but there will be a preliminary round based on a video recording of the entrant’s piece provided at the time of application.
  • Video must be the piece to be played in the competition and may be played with or without accompaniment and made within the last six months. Videos will be reviewed by a non-GPFS board member preliminary judge. The top 8 students in each division will perform live at Flute Fair for the final round of adjudication.

  • Performers are expected to dress appropriately for the event - look nice, not casual. Introduce yourself and the name of the piece and composer.
  • All competitors will receive detailed comments from our adjudicators: Junior and Senior Competition Adjudicators are: Zach Galatis, Alison Baker and Sophia Tegart.
  • Those who place 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their division will be announced at the start of the 1:15 Business Meeting on Flute Fair Day (exact time subject to change). Please plan on attending that brief session and enjoying the rest of flute fair as you wish that day. Those who place who do not attend the Business Meeting announcements will be notified by email following the event and posted to this webpage. Also, they and all other participants will receive their feedback and certificates via mail within two weeks of the event.
  • Prize details and application procedures below.
  • If you need to cancel your participation please, if possible, let us know no later than March 29th.
  • Those with questions should contact Emily Stanek - emstanekflute@gmail.com.
