- Fall Guest Artist Announcement: We are pleased to announce the 2021 Fall Guest Artist is Dr. Mihoko Watanabe! She is a Muramatsu Flutes Artist and Professor of Flute at Ball State University. Date to be determined soon.
- August Issue: Watch for an article inspired by Dr. Watanabe’s study of Mei for solo flute by Kazuo Fukushima – insightful learning inspired and informed by content originally published in NFA Quarterly, Spring, 2008

Following the first part of the review which focused on Orchestral Studies, this second part focuses on the Masterclasses section. Note, this is a resource offered by the National Flute Association to its members at a stunningly low cost of $40. The August issue will have a review of the Fundamentals section.

- Links to Listen: Did you know the 2021 GPFS Flute Fair guest artist Valerie Coleman’s composition Fanmi Imen (i.e. Human Family) is based on a poem by Maya Angelou of the same title? Listen to the poet reading her work – Maya Reads Fanmi Imen. Here is a recording of Valerie performing this piece at an NFA Gala concert.
- Links to Listen: Did you know the OR Symphony started a series called “Symphony Storytime?” Click here to see the Playlist so far. Click here to listen to Martha Long play her flute to the book Abuela and Alicia DiDonato Paulsen play to the book Owl Babies. This entire project of the symphony is a hoot, must listen! Great story time for kids and adults. Great way to showcase instruments and promote literacy!
